How does it work?

Cybersecurity Cares is a community initiative where cybersecurity practitioners, and the companies that they work for, band together to raise money for those in need. Everybody gets equal billing and we work together to achieve the best possible outcome for the cause that we are supporting. For this year’s event we have decided to support Becky’s Fund You can read more about why we chose this charity, and other answers to common questions, on the FAQ page.

Mechanically, Cybersecurity Cares simply acts as a proxy to Becky’s Fund which handles all of the donations, tax receipts, etc. All of the donations made are made directly to Becky’s Fund.

For the month of November, we will be primarily focused on raising awareness and trying to get more companies to declare their support for the effort. As new companies join we will be adding their logos to the front page of the website (with a link).

There is no minimum donation required to participate but we do encourage you to believe in the mission and act in good faith.

On November 28th (#givingTuesday) we open up the donation portal and start fundraising. We are going to get on Twitter and LinkedIn to shout out everybody who is making donations and try to build a hype machine. Companies that want to step it up a notch are encouraged to match all of the donations made by their staff.

The fundraising continues until midnight on December 15th which is the last Friday that most people will be at their desks before departing for the holidays. On the final day of the event, we will be putting on a live-stream telethon with many different guests (this was very successful last year and it is going to be bigger and better this year).

These events are fun and build camaraderie while doing good things in the world. I hope you will join us by registering.
